Driving Simulation & Virtual Reality

SIMULATION

Driving simulation

Driving simulators have been used at Renault for about 25 years. Several have been developed by the Research Department since 1989. A new version of the high performance dynamic simulator (beside) has been recently installed at the Technocentre (R&D facility) in 2013. Driving simulators are being used in the frame of new vehicle development cycle or research activities. Main applications are car light simulation, ergonomics, vehicle control systems, ADAS, autonomous and connected vehicles.

Virtual reality

The use of virtual reality technologies allows an interactive and immersive 3D visualization of geometric, color and materials data. At Renault, these technologies are being used in various domains like vehicle design (visualizations of vehicle architecture during the upstream phase), marketing (sales tool), or color and materials visualizations as well as perceived quality and interior ambient lighting . The role of Renault's Technical Center of Simulation in this field is to prototype and develop tools for its customers, it is also to realize benchmarks and technological surveys.
